Dr. Edward A. Sickles is a radiologist who diagnoses and formulates treatment plans for patients with breast cancer. He interprets both screening and diagnostic mammograms (which often involve multiple images of each breast) and diagnostic breast ultrasounds.

Sickles earned his medical degree at Cornell University, where he also completed a residency in internal medicine. He completed another residency and a fellowship in radiology at UCSF.

Sickles served as UCSF's chief of breast imaging for almost 30 years. He trains UCSF residents in radiology as well as physicians pursuing fellowships in breast imaging. He also leads courses for practicing radiologists throughout the United States and abroad.

Sickles is a prolific contributor to the scientific literature on breast imaging. He has provided editorial services to 12 professional journals, and has authored or co-authored numerous books and detailed studies, along with more than 250 scientific articles. He has received editorial awards from scientific journals, including Radiology and the Journal of Women's Imaging. In 1999, he won the Society of Breast Imaging's Gold Medal.
