Chinese Hospital
In April 2023, UCSF Health and Chinese Hospital, a community-owned, not-for-profit organization based in San Francisco's Chinatown, signed a collaboration agreement that builds on a partnership dating to 2020. The agreement aims to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services in Chinese, including at Chinese Hospital's new primary stroke center, certified as such by the Joint Commission in May 2022 (certification shows the hospital has the necessary elements to improve long-term outcomes for stroke patients).
By collaborating on programs and services, Chinese Hospital and UCSF Health also hope to address health disparities and improve care quality and access for the community. For example, Chinese Hospital's cardiopulmonary unit is staffed by pulmonologists and respiratory therapists from both Chinese Hospital and UCSF Health. Together, they provide pulmonary function tests, pulmonary stress tests and oxygen therapy evaluations, as well as advanced treatments that can bring patients immediate relief from respiratory symptoms.
The two hospitals also share a vision of creating comprehensive, sustainable health care that is responsive to the community's unique ethnic and cultural needs. The alliance will allow more patients to access complex medical care in their own language, within their own community, and from providers who understand their customs and values. UCSF Health and Chinese Hospital are committed to delivering equitable health outcomes for all.
