Ariel Jack Joves is a nurse practitioner who specializes in the care of hospitalized patients with neurological conditions. He has expertise in treating a range of these conditions, including status epilepticus (prolonged or consecutive seizures), dementia, meningitis, encephalitis, multiple sclerosis, Guillain-Barre syndrome and delirium. He performs lumbar punctures for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, counsels patients and coordinates safe transitions from hospital to home care.
Joves earned his master's degree in nursing at UCSF, specializing in adult-gerontology acute care. Before joining the hospitalist team at UCSF in 2015, he cared for underserved patients in the southern part of California's Central Valley, treating those with stroke, neurological conditions requiring surgery, or other neurological diseases.
