Changchang Yao is a speech-language pathologist who cares for patients with swallowing, voice and upper airway disorders. She has particular interests in irritable larynx syndrome (symptoms, such as chronic cough, resulting from an oversensitive voice box) and alaryngeal speech (audible communication techniques that don't use the natural voice box). She is certified in the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (for speech disorders related to Parkinson's disease) and the McNeill Dysphagia Therapy Program (for difficulty swallowing).
Yao earned her master's degree in speech-language pathology at Rush University. She completed a fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
Yao is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, where she participates in special interest groups for voice and swallowing disorders. She is also a member of the Dysphagia Research Society.
