About me
Desi Gutierrez is a speech-language pathologist who cares for patients with voice, swallowing and upper airway disorders. In research and in the clinic, they are particularly interested in gender-affirming voice and communication modification, voice and swallowing issues related to head and neck cancer, psychological and social aspects of voice and swallowing disorders, care of occupational voice users (people whose voices are essential to their jobs), and decision-making in patient care.
Gutierrez earned their master's degree in speech-language pathology at the University of Iowa. They completed a fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Voice Center.
Gutierrez is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and participates in special interest groups for voice and swallowing disorders as well as cultural and linguistic diversity.
