Dr. Anna Malkina is a nephrologist who specializes in diagnosing and managing acute and chronic kidney diseases, hypertension (high blood pressure) and kidney stones. She is passionate about patient education and engaging patients in self-care.

Malkina earned her medical degree from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, where she was especially active in caring for patients at the Student-Run Free Clinic Project. She completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in nephrology at UCSF.

Malkina is interested in educating future physicians in the field of nephrology. She teaches in both hospital and clinic settings. Her honors include the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Award from UC San Diego Health Sciences and the Andy I. Choi MD Memorial Scholarship from UCSF.

    Dr Ana Malinka is great! She is a wonderful listener, thinks outside the box and is able to synthesize complex medical concepts easily. I brought a significant amount of anxiety to this clinic visit because prior to my clinic visit it appeared that my kidneys might be failing. Although she wants to do more testing before finalizing my diagnosis, I am no longer anxious and expecting the worst possible outcome. She has shared with me several conditions that I have which could have resulted in the abnormal labs which make it appear that I am spilling large amounts of proteins in my urine. I also got the sensation that Dr Malinka will stick with my case / me , using both her caring Doctor coat and her deep curiosity to lead me to a diagnosis.
