Camille Guzel

Physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist

Dr. Camille Guzel is a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist who cares for both adults and children. She has expertise in treating spasticity and dystonia (conditions involving muscle contractions and stiffness) and in using advanced techniques, such as electromyography (measuring electrical signals in muscles) and ultrasound, to design personalized and effective treatment plans.

In research, Guzel focuses on innovative diagnostic methods and treatments in rehabilitation medicine that will lead to better patient outcomes. She has contributed to studies on noninvasive techniques to correct limb deformities, initiatives to prevent road traffic injuries in low- and middle-income countries, rehabilitation for patients with critical illness after a COVID-19 infection, and brain and blood vessel issues associated with COVID-19 antibodies in children. She has published extensively and presented nationally and internationally on these topics. Passionate about global health and immigrant health, she has volunteered in medical settings in Ecuador, Mexico, Romania, Turkey, Austria and Haiti.

Guzel earned her medical degree at Duke University School of Medicine. She completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University, where she received the William Randolph Hearst Resident Leadership Award. She is certified in various advanced life support techniques, and she has health care consulting experience from her time as an MD fellow at McKinsey & Company. Before joining UCSF, she served as associate medical director of the acute rehabilitation unit at Dominican Hospital.
