Dr. David Shearer is an orthopedic surgeon who cares for patients with complex musculoskeletal injuries, with a focus on foot and ankle conditions. His expertise includes treating both acute conditions (those that occur suddenly) and conditions that develop following an injury, such as problems caused by poor healing or infections.
Shearer works with the UCSF Institute for Global Orthopaedics and Traumatology to improve education and research programs in developing countries through academic partnership.
Shearer earned his medical degree at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at UCSF, followed by a fellowship in orthopedic trauma surgery at Harborview Medical Center and a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the Saint Alphonsus Health System. He also earned a master of public health degree, with a focus on clinical outcomes research and global health, at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
