Dr. Jenny Nguyen is a family medicine doctor who cares for patients of all ages. She performs routine checkups and procedures, addresses pressing concerns, and helps patients manage chronic conditions. She approaches patient care with consideration for individual physical, emotional, cultural and socioeconomic circumstances. With the goal of helping patients live their best lives, she loves to share her enthusiasm for lifestyle medicine (modifying daily habits to address chronic problems and boost wellness).
In her research, Nguyen examines how best to recruit, retain and advance a diverse health care workforce. She studies ways to better support first-generation college graduates pursuing medicine, including through mentorship. She hopes to improve health care by creating a system that better reflects the patients being served.
Nguyen earned her medical degree at Temple University, where she also earned a master's degree in urban bioethics. At UCSF, she completed a residency in family medicine, training at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center and serving as chief resident during her final year. She is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and Gold Humanism Honor Society.
Passionate about health justice, Nguyen champions diversity and inclusion and advocates for underserved urban immigrant communities. She is committed to reducing health inequities through policy and through empowering people in marginalized populations. As part of her advocacy, she has lobbied for improved health policies; published articles on care access, gun reform, behavioral health, bioethics and immigrant health; and spoken on patient needs at local and national levels.
Outside of work, Nguyen enjoys exploring cities, singing and playing the ukulele. She also likes to cook and eat healthy foods, and embraces trying new foods as a means of fostering community and appreciation for other cultures. She enjoys many forms of exercise, including kickboxing, Zumba, tennis and high-intensity interval training (HIIT).
