PsyD

Psychologist

Dr. Joseph Zamaria is a psychologist who cares for adults experiencing acute or complex trauma, anxiety and depression; adjusting to major life transitions, including changes in personal and professional identity; and negotiating interpersonal issues, such as family and relationship matters. As an integrative psychotherapist, he combines several methods – including psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and trauma-focused therapies – and tailors the techniques to best serve each patient.

Zamaria's research focuses on psychedelic-assisted therapy. He has served as a care provider and researcher in clinical trials (studies evaluating promising treatments with human volunteers) that use psychedelic medicines, such as psilocybin, alongside psychotherapy to address a range of conditions. He regularly educates UCSF students on this topic.

After earning his doctorate in psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, Zamaria completed a fellowship in psychology at UCSF. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and National Register of Health Service Psychologists.
