Dr. Kiran Kavipurapu is a specialist in the care of hospitalized patients and surgeon whose focus is obstetrics and gynecology. He cares for women throughout pregnancy, and has expertise in managing uncomplicated pregnancies as well as those that need special attention due to high-risk medical conditions. He is also experienced in handling obstetric and gynecologic emergencies, including abnormal uterine bleeding; benign pelvic organ masses, such as fibroids, polyps and ovarian cysts; ectopic pregnancy (when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus); ovarian torsion (twisting of the ovary that can cut off blood flow); and vulvar or vaginal masses.
With a diverse background in medicine, law and public health, Kavipurapu’s research interests include obstetric and gynecologic emergencies, critical care obstetrics and obstetric trauma, patient care quality protocols for obstetrics and gynecology, and public policy and legal issues affecting women's health.
Kavipurapu earned a master of public health degree from the Keck School of Medicine of USC and a law degree from the University of La Verne College of Law before earning his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree at Western University of Health Sciences. He completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Kern Medical Center, affiliated with the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
In his spare time, Kavipurapu rides horses, swims and cooks. He also loves singing and dancing, and has drawn on his experience as a choreographer and professional dancer to perform in hospital safety music videos such as “Bringing Sepsy Back” (a lesson on detecting and treating sepsis to the tune of Justin Timberlake’s “SexyBack”).
