Dr. Laura Hill-Sakurai is a family physician who has special interests in doctor-patient communication and menopause.

Hill-Sakurai's research focuses on menopause. In particular, she studies the varied understandings of menopause based on women's experiences, as well as patients' decisions about hormone replacement therapy, and complementary and alternative medical therapies during menopause.

As an educator in family and community medicine at UCSF, Hill-Sakurai focuses on culture in medicine, human sexuality and LGBTQI issues, and professionalism in the predoctoral curriculum.

After graduating from Carleton College, Hill-Sakurai earned her medical degree from the University of Iowa. She completed the Ramsey Family and Community Medicine residency.

    Dr. Hill-Sakurai showed extreme amount of kindness and compassion in performing the biopsy. Her explanations were thorough and clear and she always showed concerns about me as a patient. I trust her treatment and feel that she's my ally in managing my health issues. I also appreciate her reaching out to my oncologist NP so in consultation they can provide me the best care.

    I did not know the appointment was set with only a 20 minute duration. I would have prioritized topics differently had I known. These sessions should maybe start with "what do you want to be sure we cover today?" to be sure the important stuff gets covered.

    I have been seeing Dr. Laura Hill-Sakurai for many years. She is amazing! I have seen many doctors and she is the best. She is thoughtful, shows genuine concern for the patient, and is a great partner in your health.     The LakeShore Staff as well as my primary (Dr. Sakurai), are always professional, courteous and have made me feel like family. Over the years, I have gotten to know many of the staff and seeing many have and raise their children. They take the time to know me and my family.     Dr. Hill Sakarai enters the room greeting me making me feel so special. We talk about my challenges with weight gain and she reassures me that there are options Sets out a plan asks for permission to talk with another depart about me it was so incredibly hard to keep up with her ! I knew that Dr. Hill was not going to let me go home without tools that I can implement right away. She is a gem. Frankly sometimes she makes my husband and I feel like we are so special! Her NP are the same way!

    I am grateful that I have had Dr. Sakurai as my primary physician for over 12 years. She helped to create my oncology team and always listens to my needs and or concerns. I can openly share my concerns and actions as it pertains to my on-going mental and physical health. I can only pray that there are many more physicians like Dr. Sakurai who exude empathy, kindness and overall understanding of the patient.

    Dr. Laura Hill-Sakurai is a superb physician. She makes me feel valued and respected. She addresses my medical concerns effectively. She is always pragmatic and I find I come back to her for advice about acting on the care prescribed by specialists.     We are working to reduce my need for opioids. She is understanding and compassionate in helping me handle pain and as well as consider non opioid means to address the severity of chronic pancreatitis
