Dr. Lionel Metz is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in spine surgery, caring for both children and adults. He is skilled in using minimally invasive techniques to treat spinal disorders.

Metz has extensive experience in surgeries for the neck, or cervical spine; for spinal deformities, such as scoliosis and kyphosis; and for spinal stenosis, a condition in which narrowing of the spinal canal leads to pain or loss of function. He also has expertise in revision spine surgery, or procedures to correct problems stemming from previous surgery.

Metz earned his medical degree and completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at UCSF. He completed a fellowship in spine surgery at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Metz is a member of the North American Spine Society and J. Albert Key Washington University Orthopaedic Alumni Society. He is also a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and an alumni member of the UCSF Inman-Abbott Society.

    Dr. Metz has provided me with the best medical care I've ever received. He demonstrates that a highly skilled surgeon can also approach people with radical, kindness and compassion. He listens to me and takes my circumstances into account when considering the treatment options and he explains things so well and takes the time to answer all my questions.
