Dr. Lucas W. Thornblade is a surgical oncologist who cares for patients with digestive system cancers, including colon, rectal, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, bile duct and stomach cancers. He also cares for patients with melanoma or sarcomas, (cancerous tumors that form in bones or soft tissues).

In his research, Thornblade focuses on improving cancer care delivery at safety net hospitals (those that serve a large number of uninsured and Medicaid patients). He also studies disparities in outcomes for patients with stomach and metastatic colon and rectal cancer.

Thornblade earned his medical degree at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. He completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Washington and a fellowship in complex general surgical oncology at City of Hope. He also has a master of public health degree from the University of Washington. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
