Dr. Michela Faggioni is an interventional cardiologist, a specialist in minimally invasive procedures to address heart conditions. She treats acute and chronic coronary syndromes (conditions in which blood flow to the heart is suddenly reduced) and heart valve diseases. She performs left atrial appendage occlusion (closing a small pouch in the heart's upper left chamber to prevent clots), patent foramen ovale occlusion (closing a hole between the heart's upper chambers to prevent clots) and renal denervation (destroying nerves in arteries supplying the kidneys as a treatment for high blood pressure).
Faggioni's research focuses on ways to improve outcomes for patients having interventional cardiology procedures.
Faggioni earned her medical degree at the University of Pisa in Italy. She completed a residency in internal medicine at the James J. Peters Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, an affiliate of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She completed fellowships in cardiology and interventional cardiology at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as a research fellowship at Vanderbilt University.
