Dr. Neal Shah is a cardiologist who specializes in cardiac imaging, including echocardiography (ultrasound of the heart). He cares for patients with a wide range of cardiovascular diseases while focusing particularly on conditions affecting the heart's valves. He directs structural echocardiography services at UCSF.
Shah's research focuses on improving the quality and effectiveness of cardiac imaging services as well as of patient care and health care systems in general. Applying his expertise in analyzing imaging results, he provides treatment guidance to other cardiovascular care providers. He also serves as director of the advanced echocardiography and non-invasive cardiovascular imaging fellowship programs.
Shah earned his medical degree at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, where he also served as chief resident. He completed a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at UCLA Medical Center and a fellowship in echocardiography and cardiovascular imaging at Stanford University Medical Center.
He cares for patients with a wide range of cardiovascular diseases but has a particular focus on conditions affecting the heart's valves.
