Dr. Paolo Mimbella is a specialist in both physical medicine and pain medicine. He cares for patients undergoing physical rehabilitation (treatments to improve or regain body functions), focusing on complex spinal conditions and musculoskeletal injuries, including arm and leg joint injuries and sports-related injuries. His approach integrates rehabilitative therapies with certain procedures, such as spinal and joint injections, nerve blocks and neuromodulation (techniques to alter nerve activity), with the goal of bolstering each patient's strength, functional abilities and general well-being. In pain medicine, he is dedicated to providing compassionate care and innovative treatments that enhance outcomes and quality of life for his patients.
Mimbella's research focuses on regenerative therapies (methods of restoring function to damaged tissues) and minimally invasive interventions for chronic and acute pain. He has contributed to developing new techniques for managing spasticity (tightness due to abnormally high muscle tension) and other pain syndromes. Much of his published research focuses on treatment and pain management for osteoarthritis.
Mimbella earned his medical degree at St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada. He completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and a fellowship in multidisciplinary pain medicine at Montefiore Medical Center. He also earned a bachelor's and master's degree in exercise physiology at the University of Miami.
Outside of work, Mimbella trains in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and coaches boxing and kickboxing. He enjoys hiking, the beach, trying new cuisines, and, of course, spending time with his family.
