Dr. Paul Lindenfeld is a palliative care specialist whose focus is patients with serious chronic medical conditions, including cancer; pulmonary fibrosis (in which scarred lung tissue makes it increasingly difficult to breathe); advanced congestive heart failure; advanced kidney disease; advanced liver disease; and neurodegenerative diseases, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He helps patients manage their symptoms and assists them with advance care planning.
In his research, Lindenfeld is interested in improving pain management for patients receiving palliative care, looking especially at cancer pain and chemotherapy-induced nerve pain. Other interests include repurposing currently available medications to better relieve symptoms and developing new treatment options for pain.
Lindenfeld earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Washington, followed by a fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Lindenfeld is passionate about teaching palliative medicine to medical and pharmacy students. Before specializing in this field, he worked in primary care for 13 years.
