About me
Rashmi Mishra is an oral medicine specialist who cares for patients with oral mucosal diseases (conditions affecting the mouth's lining), salivary gland disorders, oral cancer and precancerous lesions, complications from cancer treatment, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, muscle or nerve pain in the mouth or face, and neuralgias (pain disorders caused by damaged nerves).
Mishra's research centers on using data mining (analyzing large amounts of data to find patterns) and machine learning (using computers that can make predictions based on data patterns) to bridge the gap between data collected from patient care and the care patients receive. Her ultimate goal is to enhance care in dentistry as well as medicine in general. Currently, in collaboration with other researchers, she is studying head and neck cancers, looking at such factors as how common these conditions are and which populations are most affected.
Mishra earned a bachelor's degree in dentistry at Manipal University, Mangalore in India. She earned her master's degree in dentistry at the University of Washington School of Dentistry, where she also completed a residency in oral medicine. She has a master of public health degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center and completed a clinical research fellowship at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research.
