Dr. Shawn Hervey-Jumper is a neurosurgeon specializing in the treatment of patients with brain tumors, including low- and high-grade gliomas, meningiomas, brain metastases and neurocutaneous syndromes.

Hervey-Jumper's research investigates how brain tumors violate important areas of the brain that affect how we move, speak and think. He also explores strategies to promote brain recovery and repair. In addition, he researches ways to map the human brain during surgery with the goal of limiting injury to key functional areas.

Hervey-Jumper received his medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed both a residency in neurosurgery and a fellowship in neuro-oncology at the University of Michigan. He then completed a clinical fellowship in neuro-oncology at UCSF.

Hervey-Jumper is a member of the Society for Neuro-Oncology, American Association for Cancer Research, North American Skull Base Society, American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS). He is also a member of the joint section on tumors for the latter organizations. He is an associate professor in residence of neurological surgery at UCSF.

    Dr. Jumper is an excellent communicator, he led the discussion thoughtfully, slowly explained my diagnosis in detail that was also understandable, and answered all of our questions. I left the call thinking UCSF must be a world class facility with some of the best health care professionals available. I work in healthcare, and have experience with a fair amount of cardiologists and interventional radiologist/neurologists..I can confidently say Dr. Jumper has world class bedside manner, just from my short teleconference with him. My family and I are excited to be cared for by him and his team.

    Dr. Hervey-Jumper is the most reassuring surgeon. He is thoughtful in his delivery and makes even the most challenging diagnoses seem tenable. In the two years I've been In his care he's always on time, thoughtful and realistic. His integrity and skills are world class - his kindness and compassion complement his technical skills perfectly. Very grateful to be one of his patients.

    I aw 4 different people for 4 different reasons; every person was efficient, friendly and clear with explanations. I had lab work done (long wait), a CT (very quick), and MRI (quick), and saw Dr. Hervey-Jumper (wonderful, as usual).

    I believe the provider is very qualified in terms of his technical knowledge; however, he did not explain in layman's terms without being prodded to do so and even then referred us back to our referring provider. I came away not knowing very much about the results of a passst procedure or how a surgical procedure would be conducted.

    Difficulty obtaining enough spinal fluid because of pain. I was told that an appointment will be made to have fluid drawn with a CT Scan.
