Dr. Stuart Menaker is a family physician with a special interest in caring for families that include children and adolescents and for patients with men's health concerns. He also enjoys performing minor office procedures, such as removal of skin lesions, insertion or removal of intrauterine devices, vasectomies, and joint injections to relieve inflammation as well as other types of injections.

Menaker believes in the value of taking a team approach to keeping patients healthy, with the individual patient serving as captain of the team. In addition to caring for patients at UCSF, he is a senior medical examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Menaker earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and completed his residency in family medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. After working for 10 years in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, he moved to California to practice at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation.

For Menaker, moving to San Francisco and joining UCSF has been the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.

    It's a difficult assessment. I came in presenting and describing debilitating but relatively non-specific symptoms. The best the doctor could do was some initial testing to kind of start to narrow the field. I was frustrated we couldn't do more but I understand that we have to start somewhere and we can't just start treating or specializing until a test says that something is out of range. If I have any hesitation it's that these are complaints that I have registered before, and tests that we have run before.

    I go out of my way to celebrate to others that I have the best doctor ever: Dr. Menaker is extraordinary. UCSF should find a way to create time in his schedule for him to teach other doctors how to be so exceptional at client service and care. Truly in a league of his own.

    Dr. Menaker is topnotch. He always goes above and beyond for me and gives me the best care possible. I am a very complex case with very complex issues and he leaves no stone unturned when it comes to my care. He makes sure that I have whatever I need to maintain the best health possible. He treats me as if I am the only patient in the office that day. He takes time to listen to all of my concerns and addresses them with the utmost professionalism, care, compassion and kindness, that one can only hope to have in a physician. He is a brilliant physician and a wonderful human being.

    Dr. Menaker is an excellent doctor!! I am very fortunate to have him as my primary care doctor and I feel very confident with his advice, treatment and care.     I like Dr. Menaker very much. My only concern in recommending him was that when I previously tried to be his patient, his patient case load was already full. I would have to inquire if he is accepting new patients.

    Dr. Menaker was late for my appointment by 45 minutes.Once the appointment started, I felt he prematurely stated that my child might have autism or developmental disabilities because he wasn't eating solids yet. Dr Menaker has had very little interactions with my child, so to lead with these potential conditions seemed very premature and questionable. It was extremely alarming as a first time parent to hear this and I felt he could have done a better job highlighting a range of possibilities to test and rule out with a more systematic plan. There was no mention of autism screening in his summary report. I also felt that in the summary report, there were several observations that my son had good range of motion and flexibility, but I don't recall Dr Menaker ever testing for this. Previous doctors spent more time watching our son walk or stretching out his limbs, but none of this was done.Overall although I know Dr Menaker is very experienced, I felt he did not spend the right attention and care, which was very distressing as a first time parent.

    Dr Menaker has my health and wellbeing as first priority. I feel like I'm a partner in my own healthcare with him as my PCP.     The care provider ignored my request to be on a smaller dose of my prescription. The way they explained my depression to me felt unintentionally patronizing. The care providers reasoning for keeping my at my current prescription dosage was that I'm depressed, and said that he couldn't take me off of the medication, despite that I never asked to be taken off, just for the dose to be lowered so that I could address my anxiety (which is a symptom of the prescription)

    My first time seeing Dr Menager. I found him very personable, easy to talk to, very thorough in his examination and comprehensive in is explanation of my issue and home exercises. For me it was a very positive experience and I left feeling relieved.

    Truly the best primary care doctor I've ever had. Dr. Menaker goes above and beyond to not only develop a comprehensive understanding of me as a patient, but also provide stat driven recommendations. I've been very impressed with my interactions with the doctor and am thankful for his feedback and his efforts to consult with his peers to discover the best options if he doesn't have it already.
