About me

Dr. Victor Chen is a radiation oncologist who cares for patients with a range of conditions. He treats cancers anywhere in the body but has particular interests in those of the breast, prostate, lung and central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). He is passionate about educating and empowering his patients so they can make decisions that support their own health and life goals.

In his research, Chen focuses on improving quality of life for patients with cancer. He also studies the intersection of public health and cancer treatment, looking at health disparities and cost-effectiveness.

Chen earned his medical degree at the University of California, San Diego. At Thomas Jefferson University, he completed a residency in radiation oncology while also earning a master's degree in public health.

Born and raised in the Bay Area, Chen was admitted to medical school directly out of high school as part of a medical scholars joint program of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and UC San Diego. He received a Regents Scholarship while a medical student at UC San Diego. After moving around the country to complete his training and begin his career, he was excited to return home to care for patients in his first community.
