Dr. Xiaolin Zhu is a genitourinary oncologist, a specialist in cancers of the urinary and reproductive systems. His focus is on caring for patients with prostate, bladder or kidney cancer.
As a physician-scientist, Zhu studies biospecimens – for example, tumor and blood samples collected from patients – to understand how cancer evolves in response to treatments. He is a believer of precision oncology – tailoring treatments to the biological features of each individual patient's tumor. His goal is to develop innovative diagnostic tools and treatment options to improve patient outcomes.
Zhu earned his medical degree at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine in China. He earned a doctorate in genetics and genomics at Duke University. He completed a residency in internal medicine at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and a fellowship in hematology and oncology at UCSF.
Zhu has received several awards, including the Young Investigator Award from Conquer Cancer, the ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology) Foundation and the Prostate Cancer Foundation, as well as the Physician Research Award from the Prostate Cancer Research Program at the Department of Defense.
Outside of medicine, Zhu enjoys traveling, reading, and exploring new cuisines and music from around the world.
