About me
Kurt van der Schalie is a physical therapist who cares for patients with dizziness, vertigo, post-concussion syndrome and all types of orthopedic conditions. Certified as an orthopedic clinical specialist by the American Physical Therapy Association, he is also a certified athletic trainer.
Van der Schalie has advanced training in treating patients with balance and inner ear problems, including those stemming from concussion, vertigo and other disorders of the vestibular system (an area inside the ear important to balance and spatial sense). His professional interests include improving patient access to physical therapy and integrating physical therapy into health care clinics.
After receiving a master's degree in physical therapy through the joint program of UCSF and San Francisco State University, van der Schalie earned his doctor of physical therapy degree at Shenandoah University.
Before returning to San Francisco, Van der Schalie spent nine years at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, where he served as the clinical manager for outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation services.
Van der Schalie belongs to the American Physical Therapy Association.
