About me
Sian Mara is a physician assistant who cares for patients having surgery for urological cancers. With 11 years of experience in surgical oncology, she works closely with each patient's doctors and is the surgical first assistant in robotic procedures. She has assisted in more than 2,500 robotic surgeries.
In research, Mara is passionate about advancing robotic techniques to better treat urological conditions. She is also an advocate and mentor for students pursuing careers as physician assistants, providing guidance in pre-health seminars at the University of California, Berkeley.
Mara earned her master's degree in health sciences for physician assistants at Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences. Prior to joining UCSF, she was a physician assistant and then a physician assistant coordinator in the gastrointestinal oncology department at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She also served as a lead provider in the surgical step-down unit, which is for patients able to leave intensive care but still needing advanced support.
In 2023, Mara received UCSF's Exceptional Advanced Practice Provider Award.
