Suzanne Eder is a nurse practitioner who has cared for patients with catastrophic illness her entire career.
A native of New York City, Eder earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from Hunter College and took a position at New York–Presbyterian Hospital. An advocate for patients' rights, she was one of the founding nurses of the hospital's AIDS unit.
Eder trained as a family nurse practitioner at UCSF while working in the bone marrow transplant unit. After three years, she moved into community medicine, providing both primary care and specialized care for asthma. In 2001, she returned to UCSF, focusing on breast cancer follow-up and prevention.
Having cared for patients facing severe illness since she first entered nursing, Eder feels it's a privilege to connect so intimately with other people's lives. One of her primary goals is to improve quality of life for breast cancer survivors and women at risk for breast cancer.
