Women's HIV Program
The UCSF Women's HIV Program provides comprehensive medical and behavioral health care and social services for women living with or at risk for HIV.
In partnership with our patients and community, we have developed an innovative approach to care that takes into account patients' cultural identities and needs, traumas they may have experienced, and their capacity for resilience. We integrate behavioral health care into primary care and seek to optimize our patients' well-being by building on their strengths and the individual factors that reduce their health risks.
Established in 1993, we were one of the first outpatient clinics in the country dedicated specifically to serving women and children living with HIV. Since then, we have expanded to include those at risk for HIV and to provide extensive behavioral health care. The program is co-directed by Katy Davis and Dr. Edward Machtinger.
Our team includes experts in infectious disease, obstetrics, gynecology and pediatrics, as well as developmental psychologists and psychotherapists, nutritionists, pharmacists and social workers. Volunteer lawyers provide legal advice on workers' rights, guardianship, estate planning and other issues.
