Inpatient Program at Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital

The UCSF Inpatient Program at Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital is a 30-bed mental health service caring for adults with urgent behavioral and emotional concerns. We are always open – 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Admission requires a referral from a mental health care provider.

Our team performs diagnostic evaluations and develops treatment plans that take into consideration the biological, psychological and social factors contributing to each patient's condition. We offer individual, group and milieu therapy (group treatment in a structured social environment). Family meetings, medication management and electroconvulsive therapy can also be arranged as needed.

We can connect patients under our care with medical, psychological, spiritual and other services. On average, patients stay in our program for eight days. Our focus is assessing and stabilizing patients, with the goal of referral to an appropriate follow-up service, such as our Partial Hospitalization Program and Intensive Outpatient Program.
