John Muir Health

The collaboration between UCSF Health and John Muir Health started in 2015 with a commitment to providing the highest quality care across numerous specialties and to helping each patient navigate their health care journey. Our alliance enables patients to benefit from the expertise and resources of both institutions, to receive care in their own communities, and to more easily receive the latest advanced treatments and participate in clinical trials (studies of promising experimental therapies).

In June 2018, we opened the Berkeley Outpatient Center, giving patients in the East Bay access to top primary care providers; leading experts in a wide range of fields; and lab, imaging and urgent care services. John Muir Health and UCSF Health doctors, nurses and support staff share their knowledge and coordinate treatments to ensure the best possible experience for patients.

Also in 2018, our two institutions began building a world-class cancer network in the East Bay to improve cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment for people in this region. We opened our first cancer care center at the Berkeley Outpatient Center in February 2020. A major component of our joint network is the outpatient UCSF-John Muir Health Cancer Center in Walnut Creek, which opened in February 2024. As it grows, the UCSF-John Muir Health Cancer Network will continue to expand the ability of both health care systems to provide first-class treatment; improve patients' access to clinical trials; and offer more advanced, individualized options.
